warner bros. hired me to illustrate this song, When I First Came to this Land, for one of their textbooks. it is my favorite so far of the songs i've drawn for them. i'll transcribe the last verse to give you the gist of it:

when i first came to this land, i was not a wealthy man./ but i got myself a farm. i did what i could./ and i called my farm "muscle in my arm."/ and i called my shack "break my back."/ and i called my cow "no milk now."/ and i called my duck "out of luck."/ and i called my wife "love of my life."/ and the land was sweet and good, and i did what I could.
